QRD Diffuser Well Depth Calculator

Enter the parameters below to calculate well depths for a QRD diffuser.

How to Use This Calculator:

• Input your preferred well width, max depth, and fin width (in inches).
• Select a prime number for the number of wells per period.
• Click Calculate to see the well depths and frequency range your diffuser will target.

About This QRD Well Diffuser Calculator

This tool calculates the well depths for a QRD (Quadratic Residue Diffuser) based on your input values. Simply enter the well width, max well depth, and number of wells per period to generate a guide for building your own diffuser.

The diffuser works by scattering sound waves over a wide range of frequencies. The well depths are calculated using quadratic residue values, ensuring an even distribution of reflections. Each well depth is proportional to the maximum depth you set, based on a repeating sequence of calculated residues.

The minimum diffusion frequency is determined by the maximum well depth (deeper wells diffuse lower frequencies), while the maximum diffusion frequency is influenced by the well width (narrower wells diffuse higher frequencies). The practical diffusion range typically extends about half an octave below and above the displayed frequency range.
